Keynote Filmmaker Presentation: Dr. Standish
Lawder
Considered
the "father of experimental film," Standish
Lawder, retired professor and former deparment
chair of the Visual Arts Department at the
University of California, San Diego, taught film
and Harvard and Yale Universities and has been
internationally recognized for his work in
avant-garde film making. He attended Williams
College and the Universit of Mexico as an
undergraduate, studies at the Univeristy of
Munich, and received his PhD in Art History from
Yale University. He has made about twenty-five
films, which have been screened at numerous film
festivals and museums.

Standish
Lawder will present a slide lecture on the
history, origin, and relation to German
Expressionism of this 1919 film. After the
lecture, a screening of the film will be
followed by a Question and Answer period.
